Petoskey is more than a charming Northern Michigan lakeside resort community; it’s also the name of a great Odawa Indian Chief and, translated into English, means “rays of the rising sun.” Vacationers come from far and wide to enjoy Petoskey’s famous “Million Dollar Sunsets” over Little Traverse Bay while combing the shores for Petoskey Stones: Michigan’s official state stone that’s actually fossilized coral that predates the dinosaurs!
Northern Michigan is home to many picturesque golf courses. We’re talking world-class golf experiences like Chestnut Valley Golf’s championship course and the nationally ranked Hidden River Golf & Casting Club. Learn more on our Golf page!
There’s a little-known gem located right in the heart of Petoskey: the 1.5-mile Bear River Valley Recreation Area offers opportunities for biking, hiking, walking, picnicking and even kayaking in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan’s only whitewater park. Also nearby are pristine golf courses, watersports and, in the wintertime, skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling—with miles of groomed snowmobile trails that lead right to the casino.
Visitors love strolling through Petoskey’s historic residential neighborhoods and browsing boutiques in its historic Gaslight District. The best views of Little Traverse Bay are found along the Little Traverse Wheelway, a 26-mile route that connects Charlevoix, Bay Harbor, Petoskey and Harbor Springs.
